WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Sun Conference has placed four Thomas University women's soccer student-athletes on first, second and honorable mention all-conference teams, the league announced Friday.
Sophomore defender
Taylor Hults was listed on the first team and senior midfielder
Katy Hunt earned second team honors. Freshman forward
Jahzyiah Samuels-Williams and junior defender
Jen Clyde were picked to the honorable mention team.
Â
Hults, from St. John's, Fla., recorded five points this season, scoring a pair of goals - including one game winner against USC Beaufort - and recording one assist.
Â
"I am thrilled for Tay Tay to receive such high recognition for her play," said Head Coach
Julie Orlowski. "As a defender, most of her efforts do not show up in stats. Tactically she is one of the more intelligent players on our team. Her heart and work ethic make an impact daily."
Â
A Caldicot, Wales, native, Hunt connected on two of her five shots on goal and added one assist for the Night Hawks this year.
Â
"I believe
Katy Hunt is the best holding midfielder in the conference," Orlowski said. "Last year she received high honors for her play at center back, so it is a tremendous achievement to earn all-conference honors at two different positions."
Â
Samuels-Williams, from Pembroke, Bermuda, tied for fifth in the league in goals and was second on the team in points with 10, from five goals. Â
Â
"I couldn't be happier for Jaz to be recognized for her performance this year," Orlowski said. "We actually recruited her to be a center back, but after day two, that changed. She does an excellent job of stretching defense with her speed and athleticism."
Â
A native of Pensacola, Fla., Clyde anchored a defense that earned four shutouts this season.
Â
"After a season cut short by injury, Jen has really worked hard to become a quality center back and team leader," Orlowski added. "Her leadership is a big reason we finished in third place."
Â
The remaining postseason awards, including Player of the Year and Coach of the Year will be announced at the conference championship awards ceremony the night before the championship game.
Â
"Our team realizes any individual award is the result of the team's effort," said Orlowski. "In looking at our stats you will notice there is not one dominant offensive presence on our team. Eleven players have scored goals and eight have multiple goals. Jaz and
Anna Gray lead the team with five goals each. So it is no surprise that our defensive players own the day with post season awards."
The 2018 Sun Conference Women's Soccer Tournament begins on Saturday with two quarterfinal matches. Thomas will host USC Beaufort at 1 p.m. Saturday at the TU Soccer Complex.
Â
The semifinals will take place at Keiser and Southeastern on Nov. 6, with the championship match on Nov. 9 at the highest remaining seed.Â
