Mission Statement
The mission of the Thomas University Strength and Conditioning Department is to provide athletes the opportunity to train consistently, sensibly and systematically over designed periods of time in a safe, clean and professional environment while attempting to improve athletic performance with as much sport-specific training as possible and decrease the chances of injury.
Philosophy
The philosophy of the Thomas University Strength and Conditioning Department is built around the predominate use of ground-based, multi-jointed movement patterns during the weight training portion of the program while concurrently addressing the specific metabolic demands of each sport. All aspects of the performance enhancement programs adhere to industry accepted scientific methodologies.
Fitness Center Rules & Regulations
1. All injuries must be reported immediately to a strength and conditioning staff member or fitness center staff member. The staff member will assist you in completing an Incident Information Form.
2. You may only use your personal Thomas University issued access card to enter the facility. The doors must be kept closed (not propped) and you may not let any other individuals into the fitness center. Each individual in the fitness center must be accounted for. Please speak with a staff member concerning our Guest Policies.
3. Personal training and/or training of others is strictly prohibited.
4. Only the equipment provided in the fitness center may be used; outside equipment is strictly prohibited.
5. Appropriate exercise attire must be worn at all times!
•Athletic shoes only (no bare feet, sandals, boots, boat shoes, or dress shoes)
•Athletic shorts or pants only (no jeans or dress pants)
•A shirt must be worn at all times to cover the upper body
6. Equipment must be properly used according to the instructions posted on each machine. If a machine is malfunctioning, report it to the fitness staff immediately. If a machine has an “Out of Order” sign on it, do not use it.
7. Please wipe down the machines, benches, and cardio equipment after each use and dispose of sanitizing wipes in the trash containers. Sanitizing wipes and trash cans are located throughout the fitness center.
8. Please be respectful to others working out and/or waiting to use a machine. Please report any individuals being disrespectful to others to the fitness staff.
9. The University is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged personal property.
10. Except for capped water bottles, eating or drinking is prohibited.
11. Please be mindful not to enter into employee areas of the fitness center, i.e., strength and conditioning staff office, storage/laundry room, handicap restroom.
12. Faculty, staff, and students will not be allowed on the Olympic lifting platforms unless given permission by the head strength and conditioning coach or a strength and conditioning graduate assistant. The Olympic platforms are used to perform difficult lifting exercises, without proper instruction one can easily be injured.
13. While performing exercises with “free weights” (i.e., squats, bench press, etc.) it is strongly encouraged that you have a spotter present to avoid unnecessary injuries.
14. The fitness staff is here to help you and answer any questions, but not to serve as personal trainers.
NOTE: THOMAS UNIVERSITY STUDENT-ATHLETES AND TEAMS HAVE PRIORITY OVER REGULAR STUDENTS IN THE WEIGHT TRAINING FACILITY. PLEASE BE UNDERSTANDING AND RESPECTFUL OF THIS POLICY. THANK YOU.
