THOMAS UNIVERSITY - MILITARY TRANSITION FOOTBALL

Veteran's Memorial Stadium

The military transition football team, comprised of veterans, national guard, and reserves, will play its four home games at the stadium, located at 701 E. Jackson St. in Thomasville.  Thomas University will play the stadium that Thomasville High School plays their home games at. 

In November 1948, Veterans Memorial Stadium opened next to what is now MacIntyre Park Middle School, originally the site of the high school until the current high school campus opened in 1974.   Thomasville High School's first game at the 'new' place was November 25, 1948 against a heavily favored Albany team. Thomasville upset the Indians on that day, for the right to face the Fitzgerald Purple Hurricane for the South Georgia Championship.

Douglass High School won state championships there in 1959 and 1967 before its students integrated.

Thomas University is currently welcoming visitors and spectators at all events and competitions, with the following guidelines:

• All visitors are welcome to attend home games.  For away games, please check the host institution policies.
• Outdoor tailgating is allowed at home football events. For information on approved tailgating activities, please contact A.D. Drew at adrew@thomasu.edu, 229-226-1621, ext. 1033.
• Dogs and other pets are not permitted at Veteran's Memorial Stadium or at Thomas University athletic events, with the exception of service animals. 

Following these policies and being respectful of others can make this a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.  We thank you for your understanding and support!

LOCATION

Thomasville's Veteran's Memorial Stadium is located in downtown Thomasville on East Jackson Street, next to MacIntyre Park Middle School.  The stadium seats over 5000 spectators, and offers a reserved seating section with chairback seats.  

• Please pardon the construction around Veteran's Memorial Stadium for the 2023 and 2024 seasons as Thomasville City Schools construct a brand new, state-of-the-art high school.
• While gates on both sides of the stadium will be available for entry, parking may be limited due to the construction.
• NO UMBRELLAS OR TENTS ALLOWED INSIDE OF THE STADIUM.

TAILGATING

Tailgating Locations

Veteran's Memorial Stadium: The tailgate lot will be located in the grass area of the Thomasville Center For The Arts parking lot, via the Jackson Street entrance. 

General Tailgating Policies

• Tailgating should take place directly behind your vehicle and should not impede traffic flow to or within the lot. Tailgating without a vehicle should take place within the parking space area, or nearby grass areas adjacent to lots.
• Active sports (e.g., Frisbee or football throwing) are allowed as long as the activity does not endanger anyone within the surrounding area or roadway.
• Drinking games (e.g., beer pong, quarters, flip cup, etc.) are strictly prohibited.
• We kindly ask that you clean up your tailgating area by utilizing the trash and recycling cans located throughout the lot.
• It is recommended that game attendees secure their tailgate area before, during, and after the event to protect personal belongings.  Thomas University is not responsible for lost or stolen items.   
• Portable Bathrooms are available outside of the Thomasville Center For The Arts.
• Coolers are not permitted to be brought into the seating areas of any venue.

Food/Grilling

• You are welcome to bring your own food and picnic items into the tailgate area.  However, Thomas University assumes no responsibility for food consumed at a tailgate of a University event.
• Grills are permitted, but must be elevated.  Open flames (i.e., fire pits) are prohibited.
• Propane grills are prohibited.
• We ask that you completely extinguish charcoal fires with water before leaving them unattended.
• Please remove extinguished charcoal from campus for disposal and do not dump charcoal on the ground or in trash bins/dumpsters.

Alcohol

• All usage is prohibited at all Thomas University athletic events.  In addition, alcohol usage is prohibited on the property of Thomasville City Schools. 
• The sale of alcoholic beverages is strictly prohibited.
• GLASS BOTTLES ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED IN THE TAILGATE LOTS.

Other

• Those violating any law or Thomas University policy are subject to removal from the tailgating area or University property, legal penalties, and/or University judicial action.
• Common courtesy is expected of all those who attend a Thomas University sporting event.
