THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas Night Hawks bounced back from a couple of tough losses with a 3-1 win over NCAA D-II Albany State on Sunday morning.
The game stayed even throughout the first half until the 29th minutes when
Sasha Manders hit a strike from just outside the box to put the Night Hawks up one early.
However, the Golden Rams did not stay down for last as in the 33rd minute, a shot from Jada Goodman got by the goalkeeper
Chantelle Thomson for the equalizer.
Thomas did manage to find a couple of goal scoring opportunities, but none of the shots could find the back of the net as they went into the half tied 1-1.
The second half saw both teams playing aggressive looking to break the tie.
Lina Munoz,
Pearl Mortimer and
Ali Baca had some good looks at the goal but unfortunately none could find the net.
In the 57th minute, the Night Hawks finally broke through as Baca connected with a great pass over to Manders who beat out the final defender and dropped one over the goalkeeper for the go-ahead goal.
Thomas continued to put pressure on Albany State as Manders and Mortimer both took several shots at the goal that were either saved or just went past.
Mortimer finally hit her target as another solid pass from Baca gave the opening for the insurance goal to put away the Golden Rams.
The Night Hawk attack was relentless as they outshot Albany State 27 to 11 with 11 of those shots being on goal.
Manders finished the game with a brace while Thomson earned her first career win in goal.
Thomas will return to the field on Friday, September 12th at 4:00pm; taking on the defending national champions the SCAD-Savannah Bees.
