MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The Thomas Night Hawks notch their second SSAC win of the season against the Brewton-Parker Lady Barons on Saturday.
The first half began as mostly a stalemate as both teams played tough defense with only two shots taken between the teams in the first 20 minutes.
In the 21st minute,
Maja Martinsson earned her first career goal as a Night Hawk; delivering an strike from just outside the box to go up 1-0.
Thomas kept the pressure on as a minute later
Pearl Mortimer took a shot that was stopped by the Lady Barons keeper. Then
Nike Henschel added a shot of her own, but the keeper saved that one as well.
A couple of headers by
Hannah Henriksen and
Makenna Casner could not find the mark as the half came to a close.
Coming out of halftime, the Night Hawks got on the board just three minutes into the half with
Ali Baca finding
Jule Rohleder who put it in the back of the net to extend the lead to two. However, Brewton-Parker responded with a goal of their own to bring it back to a one goal game.
In the 51st minute, a costly penalty in the box gave
Elsebeth Andersen a penalty kick which she nailed to go up by two.
From there, Thomas pressed the attack with Rohleder taking a shot but the keeper was right there for the save.
The Night Hawks put another goal on the board in the 61st minute;
Matthildur Traustadottir battled the ball away from a Lady Baron attacker, then went on a run until passing the ball ahead to Mortimer who buried the shot for the goal.
Thomas added on as Andersen notched a brace off of a free kick from just outside the box in the 78th minute. Then at the 81st minute, Andersen connected with
Mia Mauro for the final goal of the game.
The Night Hawks held Brewton-Parker to only four shots for the entire game. While taking 32 shots with 21 on target.
Thomas will return home on Thursday, October 2nd as they take on Mobile at 2:00pm.
