Thomas Bows Out of SSAC Quarterfinal at UT-Southern

PULASKI, Tenn. - The Thomas University women's soccer season came to an end on Friday night at the hands of the third-seed UT-Southern Firehawks in the SSAC Quarterfinal.

Just over a minute into the game, Thomas had a chance to go in front but Jule Rohleder's header hit the crossbar. Another Rohleder offering twenty minutes later was saved before UTS stormed the other side of the pitch with a score in the 24th frame.

Lydia Bentley's 28th-minute shot was denied and Pearl Mortimer missed an equalizer wide right after the 36th eclipsed. The 1-0 score would hold into the intermission.

Coming out of the half, the Night Hawks tried to score early again with an approach from Angelina Munoz that was scooped up. Miasandra Mauro's following shot a minute later was wide right as well. The Firehawks controlled much of the second half, with the final three TU shots not occurring until after the 83rd minute.

Matthildur Traustadottir missed wide before Rohleder had another strike denied. Emily Boles fired off the final TU chance in the 89th minute but the UTS goalkeeper kept a clean sheet on five total shots on goal.

Chantelle Thomson (9-6-3) logged eight saves on the match.

Year One of the Sergio Rapuano era ends with a jump from a sub-.500 overall season a year ago along with a 7-4-2 conference record to secure playoff soccer. Conference awards will be announced at the SSAC Banquet on Wednesday, Nov. 4
