THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas Night Hawks held strong for a draw against the No.19 Georgia Gwinnett Grizzlies on Wednesday afternoon at the TU Soccer Complex.
The Grizzlies were on the attack early as they took three shots in the first five minutes of the match. However, the Night Hawks struck first as Elsebeth Andersen delivered a beautiful pass to Pearl Mortimer who lobbed one over the keeper's head for a goal in the eighth minute.
Holding a 1-0 lead, Thomas stayed steady against a constant Georgia Gwinnett offense. Shot after shot from the Grizzlies continued to miss the mark, either going wide or high.
Meanwhile, the Night Hawks almost extended the lead in the 19th minute as a shot by Ali Baca was saved by the Georgia Gwinnett keeper.
Going to the locker room, Thomas still maintained the lead at the half.
The Grizzlies came out firing again after the break, as a shot in the 48th minute just bounced off the crossbar. Unfortunately, Georgia Gwinnett finally found the back of the net as Alliyah Rosales scored the equalizer in the 57th minute.
The rest of the half saw both teams fighting to get that go-ahead goal. However, the time ran out as the game ended in a draw.
Night Hawks keeper Kennedi Warren-Young tallied 11 saves facing 12 shots.
Thomas returns to SSAC play on Saturday, September 27th facing Brewton-Parker on the road.
