Night Hawks triumph over Mighty Banyans

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas Night Hawks returned home and handled business against the New College of Florida Mighty Banyans on Saturday morning.

The first half was a stalemate as only five shots were taken between the two sides going into the locker room.

Sasha Manders broke the tie in the 47th minute as Elsebeth Andersen found her fellow senior on a beautiful cross for Manders' first goal of the season.

The Night Hawks continued their attack as Maja Martinsson delivered a rainbow pass over to Pearl Mortimer. Then, one-on-one with the goalkeeper Mortimer made a nice move to get by for a clean goal to go up 2-0 in the 55th minute.

However, an errant own goal for Thomas gave New College of Florida some life in the 75th minute.

Only down by one goal, the Mighty Banyans tried desperately to find the equalizer, but the Night Hawks refused to budge.

Then, in the 88th minute. Matthildur Traustadottir scored her first career goal as a Night Hawk by knocking on in following a corner.

The goal put the game away for Thomas as they held on to win 3-1.

The Night Hawks hit the pitch again on Monday, September 1st at home against Ava Maria at 1:30PM.
