Women's Soccer Places Two on Barnes and Noble Scholar-Athlete Team

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The SSAC announced the 2023 Barnes & Noble College Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete Team and Scholar-Athlete of the Year.  Thomas placed two student-athletes on the scholar-athlete team.
 
William Carey's Julia Herbst was named 2023 Barnes & Noble College Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The senior health, recreation and physical education major posted a 4.0 GPA in the classroom and was named First-Team NAIA All-American on the field. She posted 17 goals and 18 assists, helping lead the Crusaders to a runner-up finish at the NAIA National Championship.  Ali Baca (Eustis, Fla., Eustis HS) scored 22 points for Thomas on the season.  Her 10 assists were tied for the team lead, while carrying a 3.4 GPA.  Sasha Manders (Dunstable, England, Vandyke Sixth Form) led the Night Hawks in scoring with 33 points, including a team high 12 goals and finished with a 3.4 GPA.  The pair led Thomas to a fourth place regular season finish and a first round victory in the SSAC tournament.

Additional Notes
  •       To be eligible, student-athletes must be a sophomore or above in both academic and athletic standing, must be starters or important reserves, have at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA and have competed in 50% of competitions
  •       Graduate students are not eligible, and transfers must have completed one semester at the school
  •       Wilson and Herbst lead with 4.0 GPA's, while Lockwood has a 3.9 and Olafsdottir has a 3.89 GPA
  •       Azarias, Herbst and Kelm all earned First-Team All-Conference and NAIA All-America honors
