THOMASVILLE, Ga. — Thomas University responded to an early deficit with five unanswered goals to defeat Point University 5-1 on Thursday afternoon in Southern States Athletic Conference women's soccer action.
Naomi Tilley gave the Skyhawks (9-5-1, 4-3 SSAC) a fast start, scoring in the third minute. But the Night Hawks (6-9-1, 3-5 SSAC) took control from there, dominating possession and piling on five straight unanswered goals.
Sasha Manders netted the equalizer in the 23rd minute off a pass from Isabelle Gabrielsson. Elsebeth Andersen delivered the game-winner in the 51st minute, curling a corner kick inside the far right post. Andersen added her second goal in the 77th minute, converting a penalty to extend the lead.
Pearl Mortimer added a goal in the 59th minute, breezing past two defenders after a chipped pass from Jule Rohleder and sent the ball into the net. Nike Henschel capped the scoring in the 83rd minute with a powerful strike from just outside the box brought the Night Hawks to a 5-1 advantage.
Thomas outshot Point 23-10 and held a 13-5 edge in shots on goal. Goalkeeper Chantelle Thomson made four saves to earn the win.
The victory snapped a four-match losing streak for Thomas and kept the Night Hawks in the hunt for a SSAC tournament berth. They host Faulkner University on Saturday in a pivotal conference matchup for Senior Day. The senior day ceremony is scheduled to begin at 12:40 p.m., with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m.
