Six TU Lady Night Hawk soccer players were honored by the Sun Conference, being named to the All-Conference Women's Soccer teams, as announced on Thursday evening by the conference office.
Thomas had one player voted to the First Team, a first for the program as a member of the TSC, and three named to the Second team, while having two receive a nod on the Honorable Mention list. The six players recognized, marks the largest contingent of players receiving conference awards, since six were named to the various Association of Independent Institutions all conference teams in 2011.
Senior midfielder
Carina Spengler was named to the First Team after leading the team in goals with 18 and points with 37. Three Lady Night Hawks were named to the All-Conference Second Team: senior defender
Kasey Cooper (1 goal, 2 assist), sophomore defender
Adrianna Johnson (1 goal, 9 assist), and senior midfielder
Emma Hewett (12 goals, 6 assist). Cooper and Johnson anchored down a defense that recorded 5 shutouts while allowing only 92 shots during the course of the season. Senior midfielder
Hannah Claesson (3 goals, 2 assist) and junior forward
Jenny Hernandez (9 goals, 9 assist) were voted to the Honorable Mention list. During the season, Claesson was named TSC Defensive Player of the Week (September 23-29) and was a critical element of the TU midfield.
The Lady Night Hawks also added 5 players to the Academic All-Conference team including Spengler and Cooper, senior defender
Lyndsay Moore, junior midfielder
Breana Pullara, and senior midfielder Hijalmdis Vilhjalmsdottir.
With the duo of Spengler and Hewett the Lady Night Hawks finished 11-6 overall and 7-2 in Sun Conference action while helping to lead the team to its fourth straight playoff appearance and notching the program's first TSC post season victory.
