THOMASVILLE, Ga. - TU Soccer Complex hosted a back and forth Saturday afternoon tilt between
Sergio Rapuano's women's team and the New College of Florida Mighty Banyans. No victor could be decided after 90 minutes, with both teams knotted at three goals.
Thomas (1-1-1) was led by
Pearl Mortimer's first-half brace that came about in a matter of minutes. In the 23rd minute,
Miasandra Mauro punched the ball forward to Mortimer, who laced it home to the back of the net to put Thomas in front. Just a little after two minutes later,
Isabelle Gabrielsson's pass in front of the back line of defenders gave Mortimer an easy ticket to secure the brace.
Up 2-0 at the half, Thomas felt the second-half pressure right away. In the 51st minute, New College got on the board before tying it up just seven minutes later.
With the ball back in her possession, Mortimer played it through for
Angelina Munoz. The sophomore stopped on a dime and scored her second goal of the season to put the Night Hawks in front, 3-2.
In the 70th minute, the Mighty Banyans broke away and scored the game-tying goal. Neither team could score the decisive fourth goal, despite attempts from Mortimer, Mauro and Munoz down the stretch.
Chantelle Thomson (1-1-1) made a pair of saves in net for Thomas.
The Night Hawks return to the road on Thursday against Xavier University (La.) in New Orleans at 2:00 p.m.
