TU Women's Soccer is set to open their 2012 season tomorrow afternoon at 3PM against Brewton Parker College in Mt. Vernon, GA.
The Lady Night Hawks head into the 2012 season looking for their third straight post season appearance after falling 1-0 in the A.I.I. Championship game last November. To reach the post season, TU will have to do so by going down a different road as they begin competition in The Sun Conference. TU was welcomed as a member of TSC last July as a provisionary member and now begins for the first time in school history Conference play in all sports for the 2012-13 school year.
Head Coach Chris Davidoviczenters his second year at the helm and returns a team full of experience. Eighteen Letter Winners return from the 2011 squad, including 9 starters. A pair of 2011 First Team All A.I.I. Selections will be counted on to once again lead the Lady Night Hawks, as forward Hannah Claesson (Katrineholm, Sweden) and midfielder Carina Spengler (Boeblingen, Germany) return for their junior years in the green and white. Sophomore defender Lyndsey Moore was slowed by injury in the second half of last season but she has made a full recovery and is expected to anchor the TU defense. A small but quality recruiting class balanced out the large contingent of returning players, with only seven new faces on the roster. Junior defender Emily Ingram (Cartersville, GA) and sophomore defender Maranda Sylva (Las Vegas, NV) will be expected to contribute right away and bring with them experience from the junior college level.
Thomas faces a tough schedule in 2012 that includes nine non conference games, featuring a match up at pre season NCAA D2 #3 Armstrong Atlantic state University and a visit to Thomasville by NAIA powerhouse Auburn University - Montgomery. Eight conference matches await TU, in October the Lady Night Hawks will get their shot at dethroning defending TSC Champions and NAIA pre season #4 Embry Riddle University in Thomasville. TU opens TSC play on September 21 in North Miami Beach, FL when they visit Johnson and Wales University in their first ever TSC match.
