LAKE WALES, Fla. — Thomas made a statement in its season opener Thursday night, scoring four first-half goals to power past Warner (Fla.) 4-0.
Madelyn Musgrove started the scoring in the 12th minute off a setup from Jule Rohleder. Freshman forward Makenna Casner followed in the 23rd minute with her first collegiate goal, also assisted by Rohleder.
Pearl Mortimer added a brace before halftime, striking in the 36th and 39th minutes on assists from Ali Baca and Nike Henschel.
Goalkeeper Kennedi Warren-Young anchored the defense with four saves, including a penalty stop in the 88th minute, to secure the shutout for the Night Hawks (1-0).
Warner (0-1) managed 15 shots, but Thomas controlled the early tempo and never looked back.
The Night Hawks return to the pitch on Saturday at 7:00 pm to face the Southeastern Fire and complete their road trip.
