THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University Men's soccer team announced its Fall schedule Tuesday afternoon, taking on 17 opponents in 2022.
"All of us are excited for the season ahead" said Head Coach
Joe McDowell, who enters his third season at the helm. "The past couple of years have given us the chance to build a solid foundation, both on and off the pitch. Now we look forward to build upon that culture and identity to achieve those goals we have set forth for ourselves."
TU comes off a rollercoaster 6-8-1 season that saw a few highlights, including a 3-0 start and becoming the only team during regular season play to not fall to the eventual SUN Conference Regular Season & Tournament champion St. Thomas Bobcats.
The Night Hawks' campaign is highlighted with four teams that finished in the NAIA Top 25 Final Poll, including the national championship teams in Mobile (Ala.) and SUN Conference rival Keiser. 12 of the Night Hawks' 17 games are return trips from matches played in 2021.
Thomas will waste no time kicking off its season, playing three game in a week span. TU will begin with a trip to Mobile, Ala. for a classic set up by the Rams. While the Green & White will not play the NAIA National Finalists until later in the season, TU's pair of games feature first-time matchups. On August 19th, the Night Hawks will face Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University out of Arizona before taking on LSU-Shreveport just two days later. On August 25th, Thomas makes a pit stop at Middle Georgia State for the Knights' season opener.
Night Hawk Nation will be pleased to know that Thomas will mostly stay put in the Rose City in September, as six of the Night Hawks' next seven games will take place at the TU Soccer Complex. Thomas begins the month with a four-game home stand, starting with Brewton-Parker on the 2nd followed by matches against Faulkner and Florida National before closing out the stand with the University of Mobile.
Following the Rams, the Night Hawks will have a full week to prepare for its first of two trips to Miami Gardens, Fla., taking on the St. Thomas Bobcats for one last go-around in conference play.
Thomas returns home for another week-long break before avenging its loss to Ave Maria the previous year. The Night Hawks remain home on October 5th to host Webber International in the team's lone matinee matchup of the season.
Following the Warriors, the Night Hawks themselves become road warriors, as five of the final seven contests are away. After trips to Warner and SCAD-Savannah, the Green & White will host the defending NAIA National Champions in Keiser. The Night Hawks then take a quick break from SUN play to return to Temple Terrace, Fla. for the first time in 10 years to face the Falcons of Florida College on October 20 before continuing on to Miami Gardens a second time to battle Florida Memorial two days later.
The final two matches of 2022 will require all the effort the Night Hawks can give, as Thomas heads up to Lawrenceville, Ga. October 25th for its final road game of the season against Georgia Gwinnett. Thomas will return home to finish its final game of its final SUN slate against Southeastern October 29th.
This year's Sun Conference Men's Soccer Championship will take place November 5-11. The NAIA Tournament dates are set for 2021; the Opening Round is set for the November 17-19 weekend while the National Championship at the Jack Allen Soccer Complex in Decatur, Ala. will take place the week of November 29-December 5.
