Thomas Set to Kickoff Inaugural Season

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University flag football team will make history Saturday afternoon, as the Night Hawks are set to host Keiser University for both its first, ever game and SUN Conference contest.

TU enters Saturday's contest as SUN's wild card, projecting to finish fourth in this year's standings.  The Night Hawks will be led this season under center by Junior Shelby Hartley, a former Godby player under Head Coach Chelsea Parmer.  The last time Hartley put on flags was in 2016, when the Tallahassee, Fla. native was named All-Big Bend's Player of the Year after throwing for 2,443 yards and 49 touchdown passes.

Sophomore Janae Scott will be another player to watch for the Green & White, having only been a year removed from her gridiron days at Florida State University High School.  Despite a shortened 2020 season, Scott threw for 152 yards while rushing for 339 yards and seven touchdowns overall in just four games.

The Seahawks return a few key players in Quarterback Jazmyn Rhoden and Running Back Kennedy Foster.  Rhoden finished last season 236-352 (.671 completion percentage) with 33 touchdown passes, falling just 35 yards of a 2,000-passing yard campaign.  Foster has been Rhoden's favorite target with 62 receptions, 567 yards, and eight touchdowns.

On defense, KU brings back Allyson Goolsby and Ariana Payne, who finished as the Seahawks' top flag pullers in 2021 with 36 and 35, respectively.  Sophomore Emma Wagenman finished last season as the Seahawks' top sacker with nine.

Kickoff at TU Soccer Complex is set for 1 p.m.  Fans unable to attend the game can watch the live action by accessing the link below:
