Armory Field renovation update

 Latest Photos

THOMASVILLE, Ga. - Work is almost complete on the renovation of Armory Field, Thomas' home softball venue.

Burbank Sports Nets, based in Fernandina Beach, Fla., which provided the new backstop at Armory Field and also services the Atlanta Braves, defending national champion Florida and other Major League and prominent NCAA Division I baseball teams, delivered a total of 650 feet of black, vinyl coated polyster windscreen in panels measuring six feet in height. Each panel includes vinyl coated polyester fabric, 80 percent shade/opacity and superior UV inhibitors. Custom digital printing was applied to five portions - a white, TU housetop logo on each gate along the left and right field fence lines, "Thomas University" in left field, "Night Hawks" in right field and "Welcome to Armory Field Home of the 2004 NAIA National Champions" on the south end of the complex facing Varnedoe Street.

Five yellow banners shaped as softballs celebrating Thomas' national championship appearances in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2012 don the back of the third base dugout.

Five additional plastic fence covers in the university's trademark Pantone 349 green don the entire chainlink guardrail that stretches from dugout to dugout and separates the pathway in front of the bleachers from the overhead netting.

All six dugout benches, with three in each dugout, have been painted green, and both orange foul poles have been erected.

Three hundred fifty-two square feet of sod has been installed just outside the outfield fence.

Two green polls, each 25 feet tall, for the scoreboard have been inserted in concrete five feet behind the right field fence.

The new scoreboard is scheduled to be delivered and installed Friday.

The renovation to Armory Field began May 15, 2017. Work is expected to be completed on Armory Field's enhancements prior to first pitch of the alumni game on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 11:30 a.m. ET.

Thomas used Remington Park for all fall and spring practices before Thursday, the first day the team returned to practice at Armory Field.

TUNightHawks.com will update fans on the renovation of the complex leading up to Jan. 20.
