TU Alum Follows Professional Dream

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Thomas University alumni Rowan Liburd is chasing his dream of playing professional soccer overseas. Liburd signed with Stevenage FC on the first of July.

Stevenage FC is located in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, England and play in league two of the English football league system.

"I've enjoyed being involved in a first team environment," Liburd said. "Both the players and staff have been great."

Liburd graduated from TU in 2013 and played for the Night Hawks soccer team for four seasons. From 2010-2013 he netted a total of 44 goals and distributed 14 assists. He scored 10 or more goal in three seasons with his best being 16 his season year. Liburd was named a first team all-Sun Conference his senior year and led the conference in game winning goals and sat second in total goals.

"Playing for TU under Coach (Zambrano) was one of the best experiences I could have hoped for," Liburd said. "He taught me a lot and a lot of what he has taught me I have instilled into my everyday life both on and off the field. Coach had us practice at a real high level. Some of the practices we did at TU, are actually the same practices I do now and when I was at Reading."

Liburd reflects on the differences between playing at TU and playing professionally.

"There isn't a huge difference in all honesty," Liburd continues.  "I would say that you can learn a lot from the senior players who have been playing for a while. The senior pros are always at hand to give you great footballing advice."

Liburd offers advice to others trying to follow their dreams and play at the next level.

"The best advice I could give any player trying to make it to the next level up would be to always believe that you will make it and always stay positive."

Stevenage FC currently sits at 2-2-1 this season.
