TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The
Sergio Rapuano era of Thomas University Night Hawks women's soccer began with a bang Saturday as seven different players scored and Mia Mauro recorded a hat trick in a 10-0 victory over Florida College.
It didn't take long for Rapuano's aggressive approach to pay off. Mauro scored her first goal of the day within the opening three minutes, and
Pearl Mortimer added another about ten minutes later to double the Thomas lead.
The Night Hawks were held scoreless over the next 24 minutes before
Jule Rohleder and Mortimer assisted on Mauro's second goal of the match. Four minutes later, Rohleder found the back of the net herself off of a pass from
Emily Boles. Shortly afterward, Mortimer set up
Makenna Casner for a goal to send Thomas into halftime with a 5-0 advantage.
Rohleder continued the offensive surge in the second half, scoring her second goal of the match just six minutes after the break. In the 62nd minute, Boles assisted
Matthildur Traustadottir's header to extend the lead to 7-0.
By this point,
Chantelle Thomson had been lifted from between the pipes for Thomas.
Kate Branstetter saw action before
Kennedi Warren-Young finished the match.
Elizabeth Morgan added her first career goal in the 75th minute with an assist from Mortimer. Five minutes later, Mauro completed her hat trick with the Night Hawks' ninth goal of the day with help from Rohleder.
Lina Munoz capped the scoring with an 87th-minute goal off an assist from Mortimer.
Offensively, Mauro led all scorers with a hat trick. Rohleder chipped in a brace with and a pair of assists. Mortimer scored and added in a career-high four assists. Casner, Morgan, Munoz and Trautsadottir all contributed a goal in the effort. Boles also earned her first career assists as a Night Hawk in the victory with two in the match.
Defensively, the Night Hawks did not allow a shot on goal.
Thomas (1-0, 0-0 SSAC) faces an early-season test on the road against SCAD-Savannah on Aug. 30. at 2 p.m. The Night Hawks will be seeking their first victory over the Bees since 2018.
