MY MY, MATTHILDUR!: The Sophomore Celebrates After Her Goal Against Blue Mountain

Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Sam Corbett

Traustadottir Drills Game-Winner From Distance To Down Toppers

THOMASVILLE, Ga. - The Thomas University Night Hawks women's soccer team propelled past the Blue Mountain Christian University Toppers at the TU Soccer Complex on Saturday morning, 1-0, courtesy of Matthildur Traustadottir's dagger from distance in the 64th minute.

Thomas (4-4-2, 3-3-1) began the match with an unrelenting approach, including 14 first-half shots. Jordyn Keene had the first two shots of the game turned away within the first seven minutes. Pearl Mortimer nearly found the back of the net in the 29th minute, but connected with the crossbar instead. Miasandra Mauro put up a last-minute attempt, but the Toppers' goalkeeper made each save, and the teams entered halftime scoreless.

A barrage of second-half strikes from Sergio Rapuano's program culminated with a Night Hawk corner kick in the 63rd minute. While the initial inswing was turned away, the ball ricocheted to a wide-alone Traustadottir. The sophomore pulled the trigger and scored her third goal of the season from an impressive spot.

"I saw no one pressing, and I had to give it a go," said Traustadottir.

Ten more Thomas shots the rest of the way were all denied, but the ball rarely found itself in the Toppers' possession. The Night Hawks outshot Blue Mountain 35-2 over the course of the match, with Chantelle Thomson (4-4-2) notching a pair of saves.

"[This team] is continuing to buy into the system, and I'm confident we can continue to make a mark in this conference," said Rapuano. "If you watch how they've played from the beginning of the season up to now...the growth...it's a very positive thing to see. I love how things are going."

Thomas takes on Division II Middle Georgia State on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at NeSmith Field in Cochran at 5:30 p.m, searching for its third-straight win over the Knights.
