ANCHORED AWAY: MATTHILDUR TRAUSTADOTTIR CONTINUES TO HELP LEAD THE BACK LINE FOR THOMAS

Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Sam Corbett

Thomas, Point Both Scoreless After 90 Minutes

WEST POINT, Ga. - The Thomas University Night Hawks women's soccer program found themselves in a defensive standstill with the Point University Skyhawks on Thursday evening, with neither team netting a score in 90 minutes. The 0-0 stalemate is Sergio Rapuano's third tie in his first year at the helm of the program.

The Night Hawks (8-4-3, 6-3-2 SSAC) only placed three total shots on goal in six total attempts; while the back line kept the Skyhawks to just a pair of shots on goal throughout the duration of the match. Point had four corner kicks while Thomas had none on the night.

Midway through the first half proved to be the best chance for either team to score. Point placed a shot on goal in the 19th frame but Chantelle Thomson (8-4-3) scooped up the first of her two saves. The first try for Thomas came in the 23rd minute when Pearl Mortimer broke away from her defender and laced a shot on the net, but Point's goalkeeper stepped up and made the first of her three saves of the night. The Skyhawks flipped the pitch and put another shot on against Thomson, but the sophomore goalkeeper collected the offering. Not a minute later, Miasandra Mauro found an opportunity in the area, but she was denied as well.

Neither team would have a better look before the half, entering the intermission 0-0.

The ball bounced around the middle third of the pitch for a large majority of the second half; Mauro had the only latter-half shot on goal from TU in the 72nd minute, but another Skyhawk save kept the match leveled at nothing. As for Point, the Skyhawks couldn't muster a shot until the 84th minute despite three second-half corner kicks.

The final horn blared with neither team celebrating a goal on the evening.

Currently 5th-place in the SSAC, Thomas is next in action on Saturday, Oct. 24 in Cuthbert against Andrew College at 1:00 p.m. inside the Hord Athletic Complex.
