THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas Night Hawks delivered a dominant defensive performance and capitalized on key offensive opportunities to shut out the Warner Royals 25-0 in the first semifinal game of the Sun Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon at the TU Soccer Complex.
After a scoreless first quarter, Thomas broke the deadlock with a 35-yard touchdown pass from Keelin Coleman to Zoe Jackson midway through the second quarter. Coleman added another score before halftime, finding Destiny Lockett for a quick three-yard strike giving the Night Hawks a 13-0 advantage at the break.
Thomas' defense stood tall throughout the game, forcing three interceptions and recording four sacks. Nakerra Brown, Kiera Knight and Gisele Jones each picked off Warner quarterbacks Kathryn Hutchinson and Catarina Maccagnano, with Brown returning hers 14 yards. Kaitlyn Herb led the pass rush with three sacks.
Alexa Wilson took over under center in the fourth quarter and threw two touchdown passes, including a key strike to Janae Scott that pushed the lead to 25-0 with just over two minutes remaining. Scott led all receivers with six catches for 37 yards. While Jackson caught three passes for 64 yards
The Night Hawks held Warner to just 119 total yards and six first downs, stifling both the run and pass. Warner quarterbacks were intercepted three times and sacked four times while converting zero third or fourth downs.
With the win Thomas now moves on to the championship game where they look to win their third tournament title in school history. They will face off against the winner of No.3 St. Thomas vs. No.2 Keiser on Saturday, April 19th at 12:00PM.
