Thomas Collects Conference Post-Season Selections

Tie for conference high with nine selections

THOMASVILLE, GA  |  The Sun Conference announced its 1st and 2nd team selections for flag football earlier today, and Thomas sat tied, atop the conference, with nine selections between the two teams.  The Night Hawks garnered half of the 1st team defensive selections.  These selections are in addition to the six all-academic team announced, this past Monday.

Janae Scott (Tallahassee, FL) and Gisele Jones (Tallahassee, FL) were selected to the 1st team defense, taking up both linebacker positions.  Scott was selected to the 1st team defense, at the linebacker position, for the third time in her three years at Thomas.  Scott led the Night Hawks with 42 flag pulls in the regular season.  Earlier in the week, Scott was selected to the all-academic team, as well, with a 3.91 GPA in Exercise Science.

Gisele Jones was third on the team in flag pulls and led the team in interceptions, with eight.  Jones was third in pass break-ups, with nine.  The defensive selection is the second consecutive for Jones.  In 2023, Jones made the 1st team as a cornerback.  Earlier in the week, jones was selected to the all-academic team, as well, with a 3.77 GPA in Literature and Media.

The future of Night Hawk flag football brought home awards on defense.  Freshmen Kaitlyn Herb (Daytona Beach, FL) and Maddie Hougland (Tallahassee, FL) were also selected to the 1st defensive team.  Herb set the single-season sack record at Thomas, with 24, while also leading the team in tackles for loss at 29 for 142 negative yards.  Herb was second on Thomas in flag pulls with 37.  Herb is a dual-sport athlete at Thomas, and was chosen as the SSAC Freshman of the Year in Women's Soccer and also was chosen on the SSAC Women's Soccer second team.

Hougland was tied on the Night Hawks with 10 pass break-ups, and second on the team with seven interceptions.  Four of Hougland's seven interceptions were pick-sixes, as she led the Night Hawks with four defensive touchdowns.  

On the offensive side of the ball, Nakerra Brown (Crestview, FL) lead the Night Hawks in receptions at 61, receiving yards with 529, and was tied for the team lead with 11 receiving touchdowns.  

The utility knife of the offense was Kiana Acol (Crestview, FL).  Acol was second on the Night Hawks in receptions at 55 and third in touchdowns with eight, while ranking second in rushing yards with 192.  Earlier in the week, Acol was selected to the all-academic team, as well, with a 3.75 GPA in Psychology.

The Sun Conference second team offense is lead by Alexa Wilson (Daytona Beach, FL).  Wilson, who was the quarterback on the first team in 2023, passed for 2451 yards during the 2024 campaign. Wilson completed 71.8% of her throws (275/383) and tossed 45 touchdowns, while leading the Night Hawks in rushing with 202 yards.  Earlier in the week, Wilson was selected to the all-academic team, as well, with a 3.77 GPA in Psychology.

Aliyah Wood (Bakersfield, CA) was selected on both sides of the ball, on the second team.  On offense, Wood was second on Thomas with 483 receiving yards, and third in receptions with 53.  Wood tied for the team lead in pass break-ups with 10, and was fourth in both flag pulls (32) and interceptions (3).  Earlier in the week, Wood was selected to the all-academic team, as well, with a 3.66 GPA in Psychology.

Margarita Pena was an all-academic section for The Sun Conference, with a 3.63 GPA in Biology.

The Sun Conference Flag Football Tournament will begin on Thursday, April 25 at 3:00 p.m. in West Palm Beach, Fla. at the Keiser Multi-Purpose Field. The tournament will kick off with third-seeded Thomas taking on sixth-seeded Reinhardt.  Second-seeded Warner will be next up for Thomas, with a victory on Thursday.  The semifinal game will occur on Friday, April 26 at 3:00 p.m.  The tournament will conclude on Saturday, April 27 with the championship game beginning at 12:00 p.m.   For up-to-date information on this game and other TU Athletics, visit http://www.TUNightHawks.com.
