The Thomas Night Hawks shut out their second consecutive opponent on Wednesday, defeating the Warner Royal, 45-0. The win means that Thomas has earned the outright Sun Conference Regular Season Championship for the season. On this past Saturday versus Florida Memorial, the Night Hawks secured at least a share of the conference title, due to the tie-breaker advantage over Keiser, whom they swept in regular season play.
The Night Hawks have earned the right to host the Sun Conference Flag Football Championships, which will be played April 28-29, at the TU Soccer Complex. As the host team, Thomas has elected to play their opening round match at noon on April 29. The Night Hawks will face the winner of the Warner/Webber International matchup, which will be played on this Saturday. The 3pm game on the opening day will feature Keiser against St. Thomas. Those two teams will play each other on this Saturday, and the winner will be the higher seed entering the tournament. Ticket information for the tournament can be found by clicking the link below:
More information about the tournament will be released by Monday.
How It Happened
Thomas scored early, and scored often in the route of Warner.
Gisele Jones picked off a pass on the second play of the game to set up the Night Hawks first score, a 1-yard rush by
Kiana Acol (conversion failed) to take a 6-0 lead.
Janae Scott scored on a 15-yard pick-6, on the next Warner snap, to put Thomas (conversion good) up 13-0, with just over three minute of action completed.
After a Warner punt, Thomas went 50 yards in 5 plays to raise the score to 20-0 (conversion good).
Alexa Wilson completed a 15-yard strike to Jones for the score. Another interception by Scott, set up a 30-yard drive in only 1:05, and another Wilson touchdown pass, this one to
Nakerra Brown (conversion failed). At the end of the first quarter, the Night Hawks led 26-0.
The Night Hawks continued to drive the ball in the second quarter, but an interception in their red zone, only slowed them down for a moment. After forcing a Warner punt on a five play possession, the Night Hawks scored again, as Acol completed a 4-yard pass to
Kiera Knight for the score (conversion failed) to take the lead to 32-0. Another Warner punt allowed the Night Hawks to put up one last touchdown before halftime, as Wilson tossed a 12-yard strike to
Dhnizia Turner (conversion good), to make the halftime score 39-0.
The second half would see
Aliyah Woods pick off two Royal passes, and
Shelby Hartley complete a 10-yard touchdown pass to Turner (conversion failed) in the 4th quarter to close out the scoring.
