Thomas Suffers First Loss of the Season

Box Score The Thomas Night Hawks (12-1, 7-1 Sun Conference) suffered their first loss of the season, falling to the St. Thomas Bobcats (9-3, 5-3 Sun Conference), 19-18 in a thriller in Miami Gardens, FL.

St. Thomas scored on their first possession of the game, driving 66 yards in eight play, and consuming 3:10 off of the clock.  The big play was the Night Hawk defense giving up a 54-yard touchdown pass, for the score (conversion failed).

It took the Night Hawks until the second quarter to answer.  Thomas took 7:35 to go 59 yards in nine plays. Alexa Wilson hit Brittney Delva with a 7-yard pass for the score (conversion failed) to tie the score at six each.

The Bod Cats would retake the lead in the final minute of the half, covering 53 yards in only 20 seconds, as the scored on another big play, this time, a 47-yard.  The critical extra point was successful, and would ultimately be the difference in the ball game.

The Night Hawks would open the second half with 12 unanswered points, and seemingly all of the momentum.  In the 3rd quarter, Kiana Acol would complete a 6-yard touchdown pass to Gisele Jones.  In the 4th quarter, Acol would complete her second touchdown pass to Jones, this time, for 15-yards.  Both conversions would fail, but Thomas had its first lead of the day.

The Bob Cats would strike back as Holly Neher would hit Kailey Miller for a 22-yard touchdown (conversion failed), giving St. Thomas a lead with 7:34 remaining in the game.  The Night Hawks would get close to scoring two more time, getting in the Bob Cats red zone.  The Night Hawks failed to convert on a 4th-and-goal, from the 5-yardline, each time.  

The loss is the first for the Night Hawks on the season, and their first loss in conference play since February 26, 2022.  The Night Hawks will play Florida Memorial, in Miami Garden, FL tomorrow and noon.
