THOMASVILLE, Ga. – NFL FLAG announced its three pools for this weekend's NAIA National tournament in Atlanta, as the Thomas University flag football team will play Milligan University Thursday morning for the first of two preliminary games.
The Night Hawks (15-1, 9-1 SUN) were assigned to Pool A, joining the Buffaloes (1-5) along with Kansas Wesleyan (8-7, 6-2 KCAC) and Webber International (6-8, 2-8 SUN) in a four-team compass bracket setting. The winners of the TU-MU and KWU-WIU will play each other that afternoon, while the losers of those same contests will compete for the third place spot in Pool play.
Following group play, teams will move on to the quarterfinals and semifinals Friday. The top two teams in each three pools (six teams total) will advance to the Gold bracket while the third and fourth-place teams will compete in the Silver bracket. Seeding for each bracket will be primarily based on how teams fared in the Coach's poll this season. The No. 1 and 2 seeds receive byes into the semifinals, while No. 3 plays No. 6 and No. 4 plays No. 5.
The championships for each bracket will be held Saturday. The Gold bracket final will be designated as the NAIA National Championship while the Silver bracket will represent a B-leveled championship. Ottawa (Kan.) enters the tournament as the reigning NAIA champs as Kansas Wesleyan took the 2021 Silver bracket title.
Earlier in the season, Thomas took on Milligan at Warriors' Soccer Field, easily handling the Buffaloes 59-0.
