ATLANTA, Ga. – The Thomas University flag football team made a few critical, defensive stands against Webber International late in the first half before ultimately running away with a 33-0 blowout win Friday afternoon at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Freshman
Kiana Acol had a breakout performance, rushing over 100 yards with three touchdowns while throwing another.
The Night Hawks (18-1, 9-1 SUN) wasted no time as the Green & White drove down the field on the offense's opening possession, leading to an Acol rushing touchdown that put TU on top 6-0. After the Warriors (8-10, 2-8 SUN) made a goal line stand on TU to open the second quarter, WIU nearly burnt the entire quarter game clock to drive 79 yards down the field before the team was denied by a fourth and goal stop from Graduate
Brittney Delva.
Thomas would cash in two plays later, as Acol broke free on a 76-yard scamper to the end zone to extend the lead 12-0. The Night Hawks' defense would top off the scoring burst on Webber's ensuing possession with a 26-yard interception return by Sophomore
Janae Scott to take a 19-0 halftime lead.
Half Two would see the Night Hawks add two more scores while milking the clock, as Acol found Freshman
Nakerra Brown in the back corner of the end zone before the Crestview, Fla. native recorded her third rushing touchdown of the contest to seal a 33-0 win and a berth to the National Championship.
Thomas will face the defending National Champion Ottawa (Kan.) in the title game set for 12:30 p.m., as
Angelo Pontello and Cory Thorpe will have the call. The Night Hawks defeated the Braves 19-7 earlier in the season in non-conference play down in Babson Park, Fla.
