Box Score LAWRENCEVILLE, GA- The Thomas University Men's Soccer team ended their nail biting contest in a draw against #5 Georgia Gwinnett on Wednesday evening.
The Night Hawks (6-5-5, 3-2-2) could not get a grasp on the Grizzlies' offense early in the first half as it did not take Georgia Gwinnett (10-1-2) long to score the first goal of the game in the 8th minute. Additionally, GGC started to build off their momentum which caused Thomas Keeper, Freshman Jorge Gonzalez to be a brick wall as he accumulated three saves in the first half. The Grizzlies' continued to control the pace as the Night Hawks headed into half with no answer.
Entering the second half, the momentum started to change. GGC started off the last 45 minutes with an offside call. Despite the conservational call, the Grizzlies were able to bounce back within a few minutes to notch their next goal from Karim Tmimi that was assisted by Jason Strambu. Thomas did not seem startled by GGC as Sophomore Connor Parry made a bold statement to put the Green and White on the board with a header off a free kick that was assisted by Freshman Ben Paget in the 71st minute. Eventually, the Night Hawks began to shock the Grizzlies' with their next goal that was made nearly a minute later from Sophomore Diego Sanchez that was assisted by Graduate Joao Pedro Vinah by a corner kick in the 72nd minute. Additionally, things began to get chippy on both ends as several fouls and one yellow card was handed out late in the game.
GGC concluded the day with a total of fifteen shots and nine on goal. The Grizzlies also had eight corner kicks. Thomas finished the match with two shots with two on goal. The Night Hawks also had seven saves with three corner kicks.
