METAIRIE, La. - The Thomas University men's soccer program let up three unanswered goals to the Xavier University Gold Rush on Tuesday afternoon, falling by a score of 4-1 in conference action inside Lafreniere Park.
Charlie Foss and
Daniel Mauldin put early shots up for the Night Hawks before
Freddie Pickford's attempt was saved in the 10th minute. Xavier sent the ensuing offensive approach down the pitch and connected for a score just 23 seconds later to make it a 1-0 game.
A foul from Thomas sent XULA to a corner kick, but the defense denied a header. The Night Hawks flipped the field with
Elia Casali finding Pickford for a goal to level the match; Pickford's second of the season.
Thomas could only put up one shot on goal for the rest of the first half, courtesy of Pickford, while
Kameron Kirksey (1-1) was tested in net. Getting his second-straight start, he allowed two more goals in the 35th and 39th minutes to trail by a pair.
Damien Fortin took over as the keeper after the 43rd tick.Â
After the intermission, Xavier tacked on the fourth goal in the 60th. The Gold Rush didn't allow Thomas to take a second-half shot until the 72nd minute when Casali's kick was saved.Â
The 4-1 score held the rest of the way, with the Night Hawks being outshot through the contest, 18-9.Â
Thomas (5-9, 1-7 SSAC) returns to the TU Soccer Complex for Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 2:30 p.m. against Brewton-Parker Christian University, entering the match with an undefeated mark against the Barons in eight matches since 2010.
