THOMASVILLE, GA — The Thomas University Men's soccer team opens up Sun Conference play this Saturday at the TU Soccer Complex to host the Bobcats from St. Thomas University.
TU enters the conference opener 3-2 on the season, after a two game road skid that saw a narrow 3-2 defeat against the University of Tennessee Southern, and a 3-1 loss to D2 opponent Spring Hill College Wednesday.
Entering this weekend's contest, Thomas has outshot opponents by over three shots per game, with Forward Regan McLaren leading the attack with three goals on the season. The Freshman striker has had plenty of help up front as eight other players have tallied at least one goal on the season. McLaren is leading the team in assists alongside Sophomore Giacomo Bacigalupo who has also picked up two assists on the season.
Defensively, the Night Hawk backline has limited opponents to ten shots per game, while the attack of TU has piled on the pressure forcing opponent goal keepers to make an average of six saves per contest.
St. Thomas enter Saturday's match ranked 7th in the nation and undefeated on the season at 4-0-1. Most recently, the Bobcats narrowly survived a 4-3 win against Florida National University Wednesday.
The Bobcats' away contest against FNU came down to the last minutes as three second half goals secured the comeback win. St. Thomas scored the equalizer and game winner within the last five minutes of the contest to avoid a golden goal overtime period.
Overall, St. Thomas has been dominant defensively allowing five goals on the season, while scoring 14.
Fans are encouraged to attend the Fall 2021 conference opener this Saturday by dressing in all white. The Men's home contest will be followed by a Women's Soccer kickoff at 3 PM.
Kickoff against the St. Thomas Bobcats for TU's "White Out" game is set for 1 PM.
