Box Score MOUNT VERNON, GA — The Thomas University Men's soccer team won its 2021 season opener on the road against the Barons of Brewton-Parker College 2-1 Saturday afternoon.
The Night Hawks came out hot, scoring in the first ten minutes as Freshman Connor Parry found the back of the net off a beautiful assist across the box from Senior Alex Pugh. TU continued to dominate on the offensive end finding 19 total shots with 12 on frame.
Thomas University's back line provided a defensive masterclass allowing seven total shots with only two of those ending as shots on goal. Senior Goalkeeper Josh Ricord made his first start of the season, recording one save and allowing only one goal.
A stellar showing from BPC Goalkeeper Jamair Stewart kept the Night Hawks at bay long enough for the Barons to tie the game in the 78th minute. The lone goal for Brewton-Parker came from Freshman Kevin Neubauer. Stewart ended the contest with 10 saves.
TU's offensive onslaught eventually overwhelmed the Barons as the 19 total shots proved to be too much. TU refused to let off the gas and responded two minutes after the tying goal as Sophomore Hudson Cougill headed the go ahead goal top shelf off an assist from Sophomore Giacomo Bacigalupo in the 80th minute.
Thomas will look to continue the stellar start of the season Sunday, August 29 as the Men's Program will hit the road to Mobile, Ala. to play Spring Hill College. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
