Final Week Frenzy: RV Night Hawks Set to Finish Regular Campaign

Angelo Pontello | Sports Information Director | @apontello44

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Receiving Votes (RV) Thomas University Women's soccer team will wrap up its Spring 2021 regular season this week, beginning with its final road game in Lawrenceville, Ga. to face Georgia Gwinnett Wednesday, followed by Senior Day Saturday against Faulkner University.

The Night Hawks (5-4-1) just need one more win to clinch a winning season for the second time in three seasons.  TU comes off a 4-1 home win over Florida College, highlighted by a pair of goals from Sophomore Ayla Aiduck.  The Orlando, Fla. native has six goals with two assists on the season, leading the team in points (14).

TU heads into the week averaging 2.3 goals a game, a 49th-best mark in NAIA, as the Hunter Green & White have registered eight different goal scorers in Spring 2021.  Sophomore Jana Pastorek has recorded points in seven of the ten contests, as the Moormerland, Germany native has four goals and three assists.

GGC (5-5) is filled with vengeance after seeing its comeback efforts fall short against Thomas earlier this season in a 4-3 OT loss at TU Soccer Complex.  Since its defeat in extra time, the Grizzlies have outscored their opponents 21-5, despite its recent 1-0 setback to #1 William Carey.  GGC currently averages 2.5 goals a game in Spring 2021.

Kyara Armenta leads GGC with five goals and 11 points, despite being held to no goals in the previous three matches.  Since the last contest against Thomas, Goalkeeper Matilda Johansson has averaged 0.66 goals given up per game.

Thomas will have an opportunity to build a win streak Wednesday over the Grizzlies for the first time in its overall series.

Faulkner (4-10, 3-2 SSAC) has hit a late surge in the spring portion of it overall year.  Since February 27, the Eagles have won four of its last five matches, with three of those games being shutout victories.  Nanako Omae and Faith Pelletier-King make up eight of FLK's 12 season goals, scoring four apiece.  In the Eagles' first nine games, the team averaged nine shots a contest.  In its late five-game surge, Faulkner has averaged 16 shots.

In net for FLK has been Megan White, who has averaged 0.8 goals allowed in the past five contests.  White additionally averages 7.4 saves and a 72% Save Percentage this season.

Saturday will mark the first meeting between Thomas and Faulkner since 2012; the overall series is currently tied 2-2.

Kickoff against Georgia Gwinnett at Grizzly Soccer Complex is set for 5 p.m., while Saturday's regular season finale against Faulkner is slated for 1:30 p.m.   Fans can follow the action live for each contest by accessing the links below:
