Central Time Zone Challenge: TU Takes on William Carey and Mobile

Angelo Pontello | Sports Information Director | @apontello44

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University women's soccer team will head west to Hattiesburg, Ms, Thursday night to face #1 William Carey University and will stop by Mobile, Ala. Saturday afternoon to take on the University of Mobile.

TU (4-3) is fresh off a week where the team outscored the opposition 8-1.  Sophomore Forward Jana Pastorek provided an offensive spark for the Night Hawks this past week, scoring both game-winning goals in wins over Edward Waters College and Point University to bring Thomas back over .500 on the Spring 2021 season. Pastorek is now on a three-game goal scoring streak for TU.

The team also saw three players score their first goals of the season, bringing the Night Hawks to 46 total points on the 2020-21 season.

Goalkeeper Emily Lamoreaux enters the week averaging 1.2 goals allowed in the last five games.

The Hunter Green & White's defenders allowed a total of 10 shots last week, with three of the shots going on goal.

For the second time this season, the Night Hawks will battle the NAIA's top-ranked team in the country.  The Crusaders (8-0-1, 2-0 SSAC) come off a 2-0 win over the previous nation's top team in Keiser University.  WCU's attack is led by Ana Paula Santos and Marina Sonet; Santos has recorded six goals and two assists with a 61.5% Shots on Goal Percentage, while Sonet has registered five goals with an assist.

Defensively, WCU averaged nine shots allowed last week.  Keeper Sabrina Lang has posted shutouts in two of the Crusaders' last three matches, boasting a 0.79 GAA on the season.

While Mobile (2-6, 1-1 SSAC) has Faulkner before Thomas, the Lady Rams enter the week with a breather from nationally-ranked competition; six of UM's eight games are now Top 20 teams in the recently released NAIA rankings.

UM's Elke Fernandez owns three of the team's 11 season total goals scored with a .389 SOG percentage.  Payton Lewis comes off her first shutout of the season, blanking Florida College 5-0.

Thomas will look to avenge a 1-0 loss to #1 William Carey from last season, while the Night Hawks will search for its first win over the Lady Rams since 2013.

Thursday's kickoff at Crusader Field is slated for 6 p.m. EST, while Saturday's fixture at Mobile's The Jungle is set for 2:30 p.m. EST.  Fans can follow the live action of both contests by clicking on the respective links below:
