TU Looks to Build Momentum Against MGA, BPC

Angelo Pontello | Sports Information Director | @apontello44

THOMASVILLE, GA. – The Thomas University Women's soccer team will travel to Southern States Athletic Conference schools to build on its win streak, battling Middle Georgia State Thursday followed by a contest against Brewton-Parker College Saturday.

The Night Hawks (2-1) had huge wins last time out that went in the team's favor, including a 4-3 thriller against nationally-ranked and fellow A.I.I. affiliate #19 Georgia Gwinnett that went into extra time.  In just three games, the Hunter Green & White has quickly become a team to watch, featuring different scoring threats like A.I.I. Player of the Week Sophomore Ayla Aiduck, Senior Taylor Hults and Sophomore Analeice Wilkes.

Freshman Goalkeeper and NAIA National Player of the Week nominee Emily Lamoreaux has allowed two goals a game, facing an average of 13 shots this past weekend with a total of 15 saves.

"Our team has risen to every challenge so far this spring." said Head Coach Julie Orlowski.  "We are prepared and looking forward to what this weekend brings."

MGA (2-3-1, 1-0 SSAC) took care of business with a 4-1 win over Brewton-Parker College last time out on the pitch.  The Knights are led by Miagh Downey with three goals and two assists.  Downey has been an accurate shooter, boasting an 85.7% SOG percentage.  Knights' Keeper Noemy Franco averages just under two goals given up a game, saving 76.9% of shots faced.

"Middle Georgia is always a battle," noted Orlowski.  "This is our first time on the road this spring and we will be tested."

The Night Hawks' previous two meetings against the Purple, Black, & White went into extra time, with Thomas winning the most recent contest on a Golden Goal (4-3).

At the start of its Spring 2021 campaign, BPC (4-4-1, 0-1 SSAC) handily defeated the newly-formed Edward Waters College soccer program 7-2, but has since been outscored 9-2 in its last few matches heading into the weekend.  Kadisha Martina and Aamya Moville make up eight of the Baronesses' 22 season goals.  Additionally, Moville is another accurate shooter Thomas will look to watch, with seven of her eight shots aiming right on target.

"Brewton-Parker is a new opponent for us" noted Orlowski.  "With Covid, scouting opponents takes on a different meaning. Knowing their coach, they will be organized and prepared."

Saturday's match will mark the first time the two Georgian-based teams have met since 2012.  TU leads the overall series against the Baronesses 5-2-1.
