THOMASVILLE, GA — The Thomas University Men's soccer team will be on the road for more SUN Conference action this weekend, as the men travel to Ave Maria to play the Gyrenes at 11 AM Saturday morning.
Over the last week, the men's soccer team impressively tied #7 ranked St. Thomas last weekend before narrowly defeating the Conquistadors from Florida National University on Wednesday 1-0.
In the weekend matchup, the Night Hawks (4-2-1, SUN 0-0-1) scored three goals on St. Thomas but struggled to keep the Bobcats' attack from scoring the tying goal in the 78th minute.
Freshman goalkeeper Stephen Douglas has held strong in net over the last three contest registering 22 saves since becoming the starting keeper.
TU Forward Hudson Cougill registered his third goal of the season in the Wednesday contest, as the Night Hawk attack scored its 15th goal in the seven matches played this season so far. Freshman forward Regan McLaren leads the team in both goals (5) and assists (6), while defender Giacomo Bacigalupo also has also added four assists on the season.
Ave Maria enters the SUN Conference Game of the Week at 2-5 overall, after a 2-0 loss to Florida Memorial left the Gyrenes 0-1 in Conference play last weekend.
In that match, a first half goal in the 39th minute gave Florida Memorial the lead heading into halftime. The Gyrenes struggled offensively throughout the contest as the Ave Maria attack did not register its first shot until the 49th minute. The Florida Memorial keeper continued to keep the Gyrenes at bay in the second half, as the Senior keeper registered four saves in the second half.
A late second half goal in the 87th minute proved to be too much for the visiting Gyrenes, as time expired, AMU fell 2-0.
Thomas University will look to continue its flawless streak against the Gyrenes this weekend, as the Night Hawks are 7-0-1 all-time against AMU, dating back to 2012.
Kickoff against Ave Maria for the SUN Conference Game of the Week is set for 11 AM on Saturday.
