WSoccer Opens 2019 Season on the Road

Box Score WEST POINT, Ga. – The Thomas University women's soccer team opened the 2019 season Thursday against Truett McConnell in the Jenna Paige Bragg Memorial Classic.

The Night Hawks fell, 2-1, to the Bears, who are receiving votes in the Preseason NAIA Coaches Top 25 Poll.

Thomas scored quickly, with the first goal of the season just 90 seconds into the match. Freshman Analeice Wilkes beat her defender down the right flank, then crossed the ball to sophomore Jonna Wittwer on the far post. Wittwer hit the first time volley low, to the far post, to score TU's first goal.

"In the second half, our youth started to show," said Head Coach Julie Orlowski. "They made a tactical adjustment and we chased the game most of the second half."

Truett McConnell scored a pair of goals in the remaining 88 minutes and 30 seconds, to take the 2-1 victory.

"I expect all of us to grow from this experience and be more organized on Saturday," added Orlowski.

TU returns to the pitch Saturday at 7 p.m. to face host Point University in the final match of the Classic.
