TU Wins with Late Goal; Will Host Quarterfinals

Box Score THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University women's soccer team scored in the 81st minute to defeat SCAD-Savannah, 1-0, and earn the third seed in the Sun Conference Tournament.

With the win, Thomas will host USC Beaufort, the sixth seed, in a quarterfinal match on Saturday, Nov. 3 at the TU Soccer Complex at 1 p.m.

"The ladies had a great team effort today," said Head Coach Julie Orlowski. "They worked together, solved problems and made solid decisions tactically. They dominated every aspect of the game today.  Whenever SCAD tried to get in behind, we adjusted and countered. I was very impressed with SCAD and how they battled."

On Monday, senior Ciera McGriff-Duncan netted her second goal of the season and freshman Selma Brorsson recorded her first assist of the year. The Night Hawks' defense, anchored by junior captain Jen Clyde, has earned three consecutive shutouts.

In the 81st minute, Brorsson won the ball in midfield and played it to McGriff-Duncan, who was running in behind the defense. She beat the goalkeeper and calmly put the ball in the net.

"Ciera has really been playing well. She earned the game winner," added Orlowski.

Thomas ended the regular season 7-6-2 overall and 6-3-1 in the Sun Conference. Five of TU's six losses were to nationally-ranked teams.
