Box Score LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Thomas University men's soccer team suffered its first Sun Conference defeat of the season on Wednesday, a 2-0 loss to Warner.
Thomas falls to 5-4-2 overall and 4-1-1 in league play while Warner is now 11-4 overall and 5-2 in TSC.
Warner outshot TU 10-8, but the Night Hawks attempted five on goal, while the Royals only had four.
Rene Rivera took three shots on goal, while
Sam Eyes and
Nicola Monelli each had one. Goalkeeper
Ben Barnes made a pair of saves, but also allowed two goals in 90 minutes.
The Royals jumped out of the gates quickly, scoring their first goal in the third minute. Thomas' first shot attempt was by Eyes in the 25th minute, which was saved by the Warner keeper. The Night Hawks pressured again in the final three minutes of the half, with a header from Rivera, then a shot from
Logan Moriarty that sailed high.
Warner again struck quickly in the second period, scoring its second goal just 30 seconds into the half. Thomas couldn't convert any of its five shot attempts in the second half, taking the 2-0 loss.
The Night Hawks have just three more Sun Conference matches to end the regular season. TU hosts Johnson & Wales for Senior Day Oct. 20 at noon, then No. 24 Southeastern (Fla.) on Oct. 24 at 3 p.m., before hitting the road for the final game at Florida Memorial in Miami Gardens, Fla., Oct. 27.
