Thomas Men's Soccer Postgame Report - Florida Memorial

THOMASVILLE, Ga. - Thomas picked up a 5-0 Sun Conference (TSC) win on Saturday afternoon over Florida Memorial in the regular-season finale at TU Soccer Complex. The Night Hawks, who are 4-0-1 in their last five games against conference opponents, will host a TSC Tournament game for the sixth-straight year since joining the league in 2012. Coach Ricky Zambrano's squad is the No. 3 seed for the quarterfinal match on Saturday, Nov. 4, at TU Soccer Complex against No. 6-seed Johnson & Wales (Fla.).

Prior to Saturday's match, Kelly Botha, Jesper Svall, Billy Jeffery, Richard Slaney, Garrett Dunton, Jonathan Lopez, Samuel Valencia and Francesco Russo were honored as part of Senior Day festivities.

Thomas (7-7-2, 5-2-2 TSC) also unveiled its pink warm-up shirts for its annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game.

Saturday's clean sheet was the fourth for the Night Hawks this season. Goalkeeper Lee Howarth (5-3-1) made the start and had two saves in the first half. Ben Barnes played the final 45 minutes between the pipes.

Offensively, Zambrano's team dominated, outshooting Florida Memorial (1-10, 1-8 TSC) 30-14, including 14-2 on frame.

Salvador Marin scored the first of his two goals Saturday in the 22nd minute. A Malcom Frago Mayers pass to Leo Thompson was sent into the box to Marin, whose header beat Lion netminder Gabriel Mateucci. Thompson's second assist of the match came in the 27th minute on a feed to Gavin Rochford-Smith (4), whose one-timer from six yards out made the score 2-0.

Jeffery (2) concluded the first-period scoring in the 42nd minute on a successful penalty kick following a Mateucci.take down of Frago Mayers inside the box.

"There was no doubt in my mind who taking that penalty (kick)," Jeffery said. "I was fortunate enough to put it away."

Slaney (1) scored his first collegiate goal in the 72nd minute on a penalty kick after Mateucci picked up a red card for another take down inside the box, this time of Sam Eyes on a breakaway.

"My adoptive parents actually got video of it which was really nice," Slaney said of his first goal.

Thomas played with a man advantage for the final 18:14.

Marin (5) finished the scoring in the 84th minute following passes from Eyes and Joao Victor Felix.

Marin totaled four shots on goal.

Mateucci (1-9) had nine saves in 90 minutes in defeat.

The Night Hawks held an edge in corner kicks, 6-4.
