Thomas Women's Soccer Postgame Report - Webber International
THOMASVILLE, Ga. - Thomas tied Webber International (Fla.), 1-1, following two overtimes on Wednesday afternoon in Sun Conference (TSC) action in the final regular-season match at TU Soccer Complex. The Night Hawks, playing their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game, earned a tie for the first time in six years of league play, remained unbeaten (9-0-2) in their last 11 matches when allowing one goal or less and remained unbeaten (2-0-1) in their last three regular-season finales in Thomasville.
"I thought we played a really good game and did a lot of things that were right on point," Night Hawk coach
Julie Orlowski said.
Linnea Roivas (2) beat Warrior goalkeeper Sarah McKinney in the 51st minute to give Thomas (6-7-2, 3-5-1 TSC) a 1-0 edge following an
Olivia Taylor free kick that was deflected by
Katy Hanscomb.
"We wanted to keep the ball, play one-two touches, get around them, and that helped us a lot to get good looks at goal," Roivas commented.
Madison Pike (8) tied the contest in the 86th minute for Webber International (7-3-1, 5-3-1 TSC) when her shot deflected off the bottom of the crossbar and into the right side of the net. Laura Borders connected with Pike, whose shot came from just outside the top of the box.
For the second-straight match, Taylor posted eight shots, while Hanscomb poured in five. Taylor, Hanscomb and
Kayla Folse each netted two shots on goal.
Borders had five shots and three on net.
Goalkeeper
Kara Houston (5-7-2) made seven saves in 110 minutes for the Green and White.
McKinney (7-3-1) recorded seven stops in 110 minutes.
Thomas outshot the visitors 26-14, including 13-2 in the first 45 minutes and 4-0 in the second overtime.
The Night Hawks travel to Florida Memorial to conclude the regular season Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET.
