LAKE WALES, Fla. - Warner (Fla.) scored the game-winner with less than four minutes to play Saturday at Royals Soccer Field to hold off Thomas, 3-2, in The Sun Conference (TSC) action.Â
Warner (6-4, 4-3 TSC) scored its first two goals in a 57-second span of the 16th minute. Samantha Warren found Christina Clements (2) to make the score 1-0. Warren (2) then tickled the twine to give the home team a 2-0 lead which it carried into halftime.
After being outshot 8-6 in the first 45 minutes, Thomas (5-7-1, 2-5 TSC) dominated offensive play for much of the second stanza, outshooting the Royals 12-3 in the frame and 18-11 overall. Each team earned three corner kicks in the first period, but the Night Hawks generated eight chances in the final 45 minutes compared to none by Warner.
The Green and White's second-half offensive onslaught finally paid off in the 64th minute when
Whitley Anderson (7) beat Royal goalkeeper Sarah Bergkvist with help from
Taylor Hults.
Anna Gray (4) tied the affair in the 86th minute, but Warner's Kristen Isabelle (5) scored the game-winner 10 seconds later.
Clements had two shots on goal.
Anderson and
Olivia Taylor each recorded two shots on goal.
Bergkvist (6-4) made seven saves in 90 minutes.

Kara Houston (4-7-1) collected three saves in 90 minutes.
