Olivia Taylor netted her first career hat trick in Wednesday afternoon's 7-3 loss to No. 12 Southeastern (Fla.) in The Sun Conference (TSC) action at TU Soccer Complex. The Night Hawks fall to 0-4 this season against top 25 opponents.
Southeastern (9-1, 4-1 TSC) grabbed a two-goal lead following scores in the 19th and 23rd minutes with goals by Bania Duran (3) and Uchenna Kanu, respectively, before Taylor responded with three-straight.Â
Taylor's first goal Wednesday came in the 37th minute, and after a one-touch pass from
Katy Hanscomb, she beat Fire netminder Sydni Brookhouser top shelf from 25 yards out in the 40th minute to send the match into intermission tied at two.
After chasing Brookhouser from the match following the second score, Taylor (10) put the Green and White on top in the 49th minute when a blast from 20 yards out went top shelf over goalkeeper Kaitlyn Romero.
However, Southeastern came back with five-unanswered goals, with four coming from Kanu (21) in the 51st, 55th, 66th and 83rd minutes. Kristal Pesina (1) tallied the other goal in the 74th minute.
Melanie Peyton totaled two assists for the Fire, while Aisha Solorzano had one. Kanu ended with five shots on goal, while three teammates each had one.
Taylor poured in four shots on target, while
Whitley Anderson and
Antoinette Barnes each posted one.
Brookhouser played the first 39:25 before giving way to Romero (1-0), who made three saves in the final 50:35.
Kara Houston (4-6-1) came up with one save in 90 minutes between the pipes for the Night Hawks.
Wednesday's match was delayed by an hour two-thirds into the second half due to lightning.
Thomas travels to Warner (Fla.) on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. ET.
