Lady Night Hawks: One Final Road Test

Jacob Dennis | Sports Information Intern | @jakeyd_8

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Coming off of a crucial road win Friday afternoon, the Thomas University women's soccer team will travel to face third-ranked Keiser in West Palm Beach, Fla., on Oct. 11.  The match will be the Lady Night Hawks' final road contest of the regular season.

Julie Orlowski's team returned to form on Oct. 9 against Johnson & Wales, as Adrianna Johnson netted a 57th-minute goal to help Thomas pick up its first win in four matches.

Picking up a second consecutive victory will not be any easy task, however, as the Lady Night Hawks will face NAIA juggernaut Keiser.

The Lady Seahawks have made a home near the top of the national polls and, unfortunately for opponents, the team doesn't show signs of slowing down any time soon.  Keiser charged through the Sun Conference in 2014, posting an unbeaten record en route to another conference title, and despite an Oct. 9 loss, Mat Dunn's side looks strong yet again.

Keiser's stacked roster boasts three All-Americans, Johanna Engberg, Louisse Andersson, and Linnea Lindmark.  Enberg scored 30 goals a season ago, while Lindmark added 10 and Andersson had seven assists.

Through four Sun Conference matches, Dunn's side outscored competition 23-2, including 10-1 and 7-1 blowout wins over Warner and Ave Maria, respectively.  The Lady Seahawks were upset on Oct. 9 against SCAD, however, as the team fell behind 2-0 and eventually lost 2-1.

Adrianna Johnson's game-winning goal versus JWU was a welcome sight for Thomas University, as a strong performance from Johnson down the stretch, coupled with Mackenzie Dolan's solid play so far this season, would make the Lady Night Hawks significantly more difficult to defend.

The victory over Johnson & Wales was Thomas' first shutout of the season, but the performance did not come as a surprise, as the TU defense, led by goalkeeper Sara-Ann Hartley, has made noticeable improvements.

In the first five games of the season, the Lady Night Hawks allowed an average of three goals per game.  But in the team's last five matches, dating back to the start of conference play on Sept. 25 against Florida Memorial, the defense has surrendered just two goals per game.

Additionally, Thomas has allowed one goal or less in four of the last seven matches.

A strong showing in West Palm Beach will be important for the Lady Night Hawks, whose final four games of the season will come at TU Soccer Complex, where the team is 2-1 so far this season.
