Box Score Thomas University's Women's Soccer team (7-4) (TSC 4-0) conquer conference opponent Ave Maria (3-5) (TSC 0-4) in a 5-0 blowout.
The Lady Night Hawks started out the match with the upper hand when Senior
Jenny Hernandez (1G) drove home the first goal of the game within the first two minutes of the match, giving TU the 1-0 lead over the Gyrenes. The first half became an exhibition of defenses as both teams remained scoreless for the next 43 minutes of the first half.
Thomas wasn't content with just a one goal lead. Freshman
Sarah DiLoreto (2G, 1A) netted a goal from a double assist off the boots of Junior
Alyssa Denton (1A) and Junior
Adrianna Johnson (1A) just two minutes into the second half, securing a 2-0 lead over AMU. Junior
Jessica Straquadine (1A) placed the ball with pin-point accuracy to assist DiLoreto to her second goal on the day, leading the Gyrenes 3-0. At the 72
nd minute of the game, TU added to the lead when DiLoreto set up an assist for Freshman
Bethany Chamberlain (1G) to increase the deficit to 4. Junior
Mackenzie Dolan (1G) added another goal with just 8 minutes left to play as she delivered a goal on a penalty kick (PK).
With the win over Ave Maria, the Lady Night Hawks collect 15 points in their 2014 Sun Conference campaign and their second shutout.
Head TU Women's Soccer Coach,
Julie Orlowski commented on the game, "We had a couple mistakes, we dominated ball possession, and we put together a decent 90 minutes. As we move through the season, we will work on correcting these mistakes and work to continuously put ourselves in advantageous situations in order to get the results."
