Thomas University's Women's Soccer (6-4) (TSC 3-0) burned through the Southeastern Fire (4-4) in a 4-1 victory. With the win over the Fire, TU lands their third conference victory.
It was a combination of forward and mid fielder strikes and assists that delivered the goals and ultimately the win for the Lady Night Hawks. Senior Forward Jenny Hernandez (3G) netted the first goal unassisted, giving TU the lead thirteen and a half minutes into play. Southeastern fired back nine minutes later, tying the game at 1.
It was a stalemate entering half time with a score of 1-1. Hernandez netted the second goal of the match four and a half minutes into the second half off of an assist from fellow forward, Freshman Sarah DiLoreto (2A). DiLoreto also assisted the third TU goal 11 minutes later for Junior Mackenzie Dolan (1G), putting the Lady Night Hawks in the lead over the Fire, 3-1. Collecting her third goal and a hat trick for the day, Hernandez delivered the fourth TU goal on an assist from Mid Fielder Freshman Linnea Roivas (1A) extending their lead 4-1, with ten minutes left to spare in the match. The Fire were unsuccessful against TU goal keeper Junior Sarah Hartley in the second half and the Lady Night Hawks composed their win over Southeastern, 4-1.
"We got off to a rough start, but we were able to focus and put together a better 45 minutes for the second half" said TU Head Women's Soccer Coach, Julie Orlowski. "We need to keep this focus throughout the remainder of our season, especially as we continue through our conference campaign."
