The Lady Night Hawks (11-5) secured their spot in the Sun Conference Tournament Semi-Final round by topping the #6 seeded Webber International University Warriors (3-10-2), 5-1, on Thursday afternoon at the TU Soccer Complex in the tournament's first round.
Webber silenced the crowd by opening the scoring just 1:31 into the game when the Warriors forward broke free behind the TU backline and knocked home the pass for the 1-0 advantage. Sophomore midfielder
Alyssa Denton got the crowd back into the game just one minute and fourteen seconds later, when she knocked home a rebound that bounced around the Webber box after a shot was deflected by a Warrior defender. With the score knotted at one, TU slowly began to take full control of the game and in the 22

Carina Spengler gave TU the lead when she volleyed home a cross by junior forward
Jenny Hernandez. Thomas took the one goal lead into the half before senior forward
Emma Hewett extended the Thomas advantage to two goals when she broke free on the dribble, beating a pair of WIU defenders and depositing the ball in the back of the net to make it a 3-1 game just eleven minutes into the 2
nd half. Hernandez put the game away in the 77
th minute on an assist by junior midfielder
Alx Walter and Spengler knocked in her 17
th goal of the year on another assist from Walter less than a minute later.
Thomas will next face the #2 seeded St. Thomas University Bobcats on Saturday afternoon at 2PM in Miami Gardens, FL. STU advanced by defeating #7 Johnson & Wales University 4-1 on Thursday afternoon. The win for TU is the program's first ever in TSC post season action.
