Junior Victor Vassallo has been named the Student-Athlete of the week for March 9-15, 2015.
Vassallo had an electrifying performance at the 2015 NAIA Men’s Swimming & Diving National Championship this past week in Oklahoma City, Okla. The Pompano Beach, Fla., native reached the victor’s podium on two occasions, once individually and the other as a member of the 200 yard freestyle relay. The men's relay, also consisting of Igor Dos Santos, Tan Dang, and Christian Marchione, finished the race in fifth place in 1:23.98, which set a Thomas University record for the best finish at the NAIA National Championship meet. Individually, Vassallo reached the victor's podium finishing 8th in the 200 yard backstroke (1:53.07). He would go on to finish 13th in the 100 yard backstroke (51.59) and placed 16th in the 200 yard IM (1:55.52). Vassallo was also a member of the of the 400 yard freestyle relay team that finished 12th place in 3:08.71.
