Senior Courtney Saunds has been named the Student-Athlete of the week for March 2-8, 2015.
This past week, Saunds was named a First Team All-Conference selection and the Newcomer of the Year by the Sun Conference. During the women’s basketball team’s run in the Sun Conference tournament, Saunds scored a single game, career high 36 points in the Lady Night Hawks win over Embry-Riddle. In the conference semifinal matchup against St. Thomas, the senior scored 31 points shooting 52.4 percent from the floor. During the 2014-2015 season, Saunds had four 30+ point games. A native of Darien, Ga., Saunds ranks 13th in NAIA Division II in points per game (19.655). She is the team leader in assists per game (2.41), blocks per game (0.9), and steals per game (2.21). The 5-foot-9 guard has amassed 570 points this season which places her 13th overall in NAIA Division II. Saunds was also named to the Sun Conference All-Tournament team for her individual performances against Embry-Riddle and St. Thomas.
Courtney will graduate this spring with a degree in biology.
