MT. VERNON, Ga. — Elias Garcia etched his name in the Night Hawks' record books Thursday, launching the first home run of his career — a three-run blast in the fourth inning — but Thomas (27-19) couldn't overcome a 13-run third inning by Brewton-Parker (GA) in a 16-6 SSAC defeat.
Garcia, the leadoff center fielder, went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI on the night. His career milestone came in the top of the fourth against starter Jack Hulse, when he connected on the first pitch with Jackson Thomas and Gabe Tafelski aboard to pull Thomas within 13-4.
The milestone moment couldn't mask a disastrous third inning for Thomas pitching. Starter Isaac Padilla and reliever Dustin Letchworth combined to surrender 13 runs on seven hits and a hit batsman as Brewton-Parker sent 16 batters to the plate. Fred Diaz delivered the knockout blow, a grand slam off Letchworth that capped the frame and stretched the Baron lead to 13-1.
Gabe Tafelski provided the Night Hawks' brightest offensive performance beyond Garcia, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Brayden Lawhon also contributed with a run-producing single in the sixth.
Thomas stranded 12 baserunners on the night and went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
