Night Hawks Win Regular Season Finale Against Lady Barons 41-6

MT. VERNON, Ga, - Thomas University defeated Brewton-Parker 41-6 on Saturday. Thomas showcased a dominant passing attack, completing 29 of 40 attempts for 286 yards and five touchdowns. The defense also excelled, intercepting Brewton-Parker four times. The Lady Barons managed a touchdown in the first quarter but was held scoreless for the remainder of the game.

The game commenced with Brewton initiating play from its own 14-yard line. Keshauna Gusby initiated their drive with a 22-yard rush, moving the ball up to their 36-yard line. However, Thomas' defense responded effectively, with Dyva Jones executing a critical QB flag pull for a loss on Liani Gil for two yards. The possession concluded without further advancements from Brewton.

Thomas began its first offensive drive on its own 39-yard line, but faced setbacks due to a holding penalty and two consecutive losses on plays. Iyana Harris' efforts in the air were ultimately thwarted, ending Thomas' drive without scoring. Brewton capitalized on its subsequent possession, culminating in a touchdown to lead 6-0.

Thomas' second possession saw Destiny Lockett take charge, advancing the ball with a combination of rushes and a successful pass to Neka Dean for 11 yards. Despite the gain, the quarter closed with Thomas trailing Brewton 6-0.

The second quarter commenced with a promising drive for Thomas as it started on Brewton's 14-yard line. Despite an incomplete pass, Destiny Lockett managed a 4-yard rush, setting a resilient tone. The defense quickly stifled Brewton's response, with Von Aaron's passing attempts resulting in negative yardage and incomplete plays.

Thomas capitalized on Brewton's offensive stumbles, highlighted by Azariah Greer's interception and return to Brewton's 18-yard line. Destiny Lockett then connected with Iyana Harris for an 18-yard touchdown as time expired, extending Thomas's lead to 26-6 at the close of the quarter.

Thomas began the third quarter with a determined offensive push. Kam King connected with Arie'Yona Christion for a 22-yard gain, setting a positive tone. However, the drive was halted by a false start penalty, which shifted possession back to Brewton. Thomas's defense responded effectively, holding Brewton to minimal progress and forcing incomplete passes.

Midway through the quarter, Thomas struggled to capitalize on its defensive stops, as Brewton's defensive pressure resulted in yards lost for Thomas. Despite these setbacks, both teams were unable to break the deadlock, leaving the score unchanged by the end of the quarter. The scoreboard remained level, reflecting a quarter marked by defensive resilience from both sides.

Thomas began the fourth quarter with a decisive offensive drive, highlighted by Kam King's 11-yard completion to Azariah Greer and an 8-yard pass to Arie'Yona Christion. This momentum set the stage for Thomas to capitalize on Brewton's subsequent errors. Defensive pressure from Thomas, including flag pulls by Arie'Yona Christion and Destiny Lockett, resulted in Brewton losing yardage on several plays.

A key interception by Neka Dean at the Brewton 21-yard line created a critical turnover. This set up Kam King's 16-yard touchdown pass to Dyva Jones, followed by a successful pass attempt, extending Thomas's lead. Despite Brewton's attempts to respond, Thomas's defense maintained control, closing the game with a final score of 41-6 in favor of Thomas.

Dyva Jones made a strong impact by scoring two touchdowns and collecting 91 receiving yards. Destiny Lockett excelled in the passing game, throwing for four touchdowns and 169 yards without an interception. Neka Dean contributed defensively with an interception, adding to the team's turnover tally. Arie'Yona Christion added to the scoring with a touchdown and recorded 48 receiving yards.
